Construction and business inventory costs continued to rise in the second quarter of 2026.
Highlights:
- The Troostwijk Index reached 139.1 points for business buildings and offices, 136.8 points for residential construction and 134.3 points for business inventory, maintaining the upward trend across all categories.
- Residential construction costs recorded the strongest annual growth, increasing 4.1% year-on-year, followed by business buildings and offices (+3.5%) and business inventory (+2.5%).
- Construction costs continued to be supported by persistent wage pressure and higher rates charged by contractors.
- Building material prices showed a mixed performance, with increases in paint and cement, stable pricing in steel, sand, bricks and glass, and declines in wood and bitumen.
- International trade developments and geopolitical tensions continued to influence commodity markets, contributing to uncertainty around future cost developments for energy and industrial materials.
