Troostwijk Index Q3 2026

Construction and business inventory costs increased again in the third quarter of 2026, with business inventory recording the strongest quarterly growth.

Highlights:

  • The Troostwijk Index reached 140.8 points for business buildings and offices, 138.1 points for residential construction and 139.6 points for business inventory, maintaining the upward trend across all categories.
  • Business inventory costs recorded the strongest growth, increasing 5.9% year-on-year, compared to +4.1% for business buildings and offices, and +4.4% for residential construction.
  • Construction costs remain above the average of recent years due to persistent wage pressure, a tight labour market and higher rates charged by contractors.
  • Building material prices generally moved upwards during the quarter, with particularly strong increases in bitumen, sand and plastic products.
  • Production costs for business inventory accelerated due to the combined impact of collective labour agreement wage increases, labour market constraints, higher component costs and rising commodity prices.
  • Commodity market volatility, geopolitical tensions and international trade developments continued to create uncertainty around energy, raw material and supply chain costs.
